Dundee United add keeper Szromnik

Dundee United have signed Polish Under-21 international goalkeeper Michal Szromnik.

The 21-year-old joins on a three-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Arka Gydnia, who play in the Polish 1 Liga.

Szromnik will provide competition for compatriot Radoslaw Cierzniak, who has another year to run on his contract.

“I see Michal coming in and challenging for the number one jersey immediately,” said manager Jackie McNamara.

“He has a lot of experience for someone his age and every aspect of his game has strong foundations.

“His arrival will add to our options and create a more competitive environment for the goalkeepers already here.”

Dundee United sign defender Fojut

Dundee United have signed Polish central defender Jaroslaw Fojut, subject to international clearance.

The 26-year-old has agreed a two-year deal after leaving Norwegian club Tromso.

Fojut began his career at Bolton and had spells on loan at Luton and Stockport before joining Slask Wroclaw in his homeland in 2009.

“He is a commanding player who knows British football from his time at Bolton,” said manager Jackie McNamara.

Talking to the club website,  McNamara added: “Jaroslaw is a strong and aggressive player. He will add to our defence and I am delighted to have secured him.

“We now have strong competition in the central defensive area of our squad and that was something we knew we had to address this pre-season.”

In January 2012 Fojut signed a pre-contract agreement to move to Celtic, but the deal was cancelled after the player suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

Dundee United have also signed defender Callum Morris on a two-year deal after his contract with Dunfermline expired but they lost Gavin Gunning to Birmingham under freedom of contract.

The Tannadice club recently failed with a bid for Mansfield Town defender Ryan Tafazolli.

Dundee Utd fail with Tafazolli bid

Dundee United have had a bid for Mansfield Town defender Ryan Tafazolli rejected, the English League Two club has confirmed.

The 22-year-old centre-back scored twice in 24 appearances last season as the Stags returned to the senior ranks.

“We won’t roll over and let our players walk away for what we feel is little compensation,” said manager Paul Cox.

“Everybody has a price but I don’t want to lose my best players and I’m not just going to give players away.”

A former Southampton trainee, Tafazolli joined Mansfield in the summer of 2012 but missed most of the Conference Premier title-winning season through injury before returning to fitness last term.

Cox also said the club had turned down a bid for 23-year-old midfielder Sam Clucas, without naming the interested club.

“Both offers have been turned down flat,” he added on the club website.
