Pardew retains interest in QPR’s Remy

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew remains interested in France striker Loic Remy, after a move to Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers collapsed.

Remy, 27, scored 14 goals on loan with the Magpies last term, prompting a bid from Liverpool this summer.

However, the transfer fell through, leaving the ex-Marseille forward to return to QPR for pre-season.

“It’s a straightforward deal if Loic and QPR decide to do business with us,” Pardew told BBC Newcastle.

26 appearances (14 league goals)

“The results speak for themselves, the fans loved him and I think it’s a great place for him personally.

“There is a lot of baggage in the way at the moment because of what happened at Liverpool, and the fact he has a parent club in QPR.

“But I wouldn’t say we’re not interested in him, of course we would be.”

Pardew has brought in six signings so far this summer in forwards Ayoze Perez and Emmanuel Riviere, midfielders Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Siem De Jong plus defender Daryl Janmaat.

Former Marseille striker Remy has scored five goals in 24 appearances for France, and played at the 2014 World Cup, coming off the substitutes’ bench to feature against Ecuador and Germany.

Dundee United add keeper Szromnik

Dundee United have signed Polish Under-21 international goalkeeper Michal Szromnik.

The 21-year-old joins on a three-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Arka Gydnia, who play in the Polish 1 Liga.

Szromnik will provide competition for compatriot Radoslaw Cierzniak, who has another year to run on his contract.

“I see Michal coming in and challenging for the number one jersey immediately,” said manager Jackie McNamara.

“He has a lot of experience for someone his age and every aspect of his game has strong foundations.

“His arrival will add to our options and create a more competitive environment for the goalkeepers already here.”

Blackpool agree deal for Cubero

Costa Rica midfielder Jose Miguel Cubero has agreed to join Blackpool, subject to a work permit being granted.

The Seasiders have paid Herediano an undisclosed fee for the 27-year-old, who has spent all of his professional career playing in his home country.

Cubero appeared in four of Costa Rica’s five games at the World Cup in Brazil as they reached the last eight before losing on penalties to the Netherlands.

He has agreed a one-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

“It has always been a dream to play in England and grow as a footballer, so it’s a great opportunity,” he told the club website.

Cubero is the sixth summer signing made by manager Jose Riga, taking the number of senior players in his squad to 13.

Costa Rica Costa Rica surprised many in Brazil, topping a World Cup group that included England, Italy and Uruguay

Riga had been working with a squad of only eight during pre-season, with the club’s recruitment slowed by a dispute over transfer policy between him and chairman Karl Oyston.

The signings of defender Peter Clarke, midfielders Jacob Mellis and Tomasz Cywka on Monday, plus the arrival of striker Nathan Delfouneso on Tuesday, have swelled that number but they are still without a senior goalkeeper.

Cubero posted pictures of himself at Bloomfield Road shaking hands with Riga on his Twitter page  on Wednesday and he underwent a medical on Thursday before agreeing the move.

All four of his appearances at the World Cup were as a substitute, coming off the bench in the victories over Uruguay and Italy that confirmed the Central Americans as Group D winners, as well as in the second-round win over Greece and the quarter-final defeat by the Dutch.

Thai consortium to invest in Reading

A Thai consortium is to invest in Reading after chairman Sir John Madejski confirmed the deal.

Madejski said he had agreed a “partnership” with the group, led by 76-year-old businesswoman Khunying Sasima Srivikorn.

The formalities of the deal are still to be completed.

Reading have been trying to find a buyer since last October and majority shareholder Anton Zingarevich stood down from the board in June.

Khunying Sasima told the club website:  “I am absolutely delighted to be entering into this partnership with Sir John, and working with a club with such a strong reputation.

“I and my fellow investors look forward to supporting Sir John and working toward a successful future together. We are excited about what lies ahead.”

West Ham sign Jenkinson on loan

West Ham have signed Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old had been linked with several Premier League clubs, but opted for the Hammers.

“I’m clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can prove my worth because it is an important year for me,” Jenkinson said.

The right-back has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal following the recent signings of full-backs Mathieu Debuchy, 29, and Calum Chambers, 19.

France international Debuchy joined from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee in July and youngster Chambers moved from Southampton, for £16m, earlier this week.

Jenkinson, who has won one England cap, played 22 games in all competitions for the Gunners last season.

He said: “I was flattered to have a lot of options but, deep down, if I was being honest with myself West Ham was always the place I wanted to go to.”

The former Charlton Athletic player becomes West Ham’s sixth new player, following the signing of Ecuador striker Enner Valencia from Pachuca, midfielder Diego Poyet from Charlton, striker Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield, Anderlecht’s Senegal international midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and Ipswich full-back Aaron Cresswell.
